CONCERTO NO.1: SERMON

  • Barbican Hall Silk Street London, England, EC2Y 8DS United Kingdom (map)

In this devised concerto, Davóne recites short pieces of poetic texts by seminal Black authors as the setting for three works: “Shake the Heavens” from John Adams’ oratorio El Niño, the orchestral song “VIGIL”, a collaboration between Davóne, composer Matthew Aucoin, and French/Dutch composer Igee Dieudonné, and “Malcolm’s Aria” from Pulitzer Prize winning composer Anthony Davis’ opera The Life and Times of Malcolm X in a program that tells a story of a person discovering their potential, exhibiting their humanity, and indicting their naysayers.
