Davóne Tines is “changing what it means to be a classical singer” and “one of the most powerful voices of our time” (The New Yorker/Los Angeles Times). He makes his anticipated NWS debut with songs by American composers, including his own. Vigil—Tines’ co-creation with Igée Dieudonné and Matthew Aucoin—is a poignant call to action in honor of Breonna Taylor. Tines also performs Samuel Barber’s WWII-reflection Dover Beach, Caroline Shaw’s take on popular hymn “I’ll Fly Away” and Carlos Simon’s arrangement of the gospel “Angels in Heaven.” Rounding out the program are Ottorino Respighi’s evocation of three Botticelli paintings, Ann Millikan’s train-inspired romp and Antonio Vivaldi’s Sonata for Oboe.
